I, Tonya Review

I, Tonya - 7/10

Let me start of by saying that Margot Robbie is just my woman crush every day of the week however I am in no way being biased that she was so outstanding in this film. Margot Robbie really does go outside her comfort zone, and it seems like a full transformation. She doesn’t play her typical sexy roles, she just acts and very well! You could see how much effort she made for the film, such as practicing ice skating for 4 months straight, of course she didn’t become a pro like Tonya Harding, however she was actually quite impressive!

I didn’t know much about the real life story of Tonya Harding nevertheless this movie tells the viewers all about it, but reminding of everyone that it could be biased and that the truth is always hard to obtain. It makes everything hilarious and sometimes even comically dark. It was great how the main comedic thing about the film was that everybody story was so different to each other.

Tonya Harding’s character is made to show how she didn’t deserve such a harsh treatment, although she ended up being happy with a new family and child. It just makes the audience sympathise about the situation. The film in no way makes you pick sides, because there are so many during the film, but it does show you that Tonya Harding herself did have a rough time. What made me really sad was the punishment she got at court and how she begged the judge to not make her give up her passion.

The 80’s/90's vibe you get throughout the whole film, with the music and the cinematography with the camera recorders is such a real touch that you seem to forget that it’s not a real life documentary.

It just makes me sad that Margot Robbie hasn’t gotten much recognition from the film, this was one of her best performances in my eyes. But there is such a lack of nominations and awards for the film. Allison Janney is hilarious and if you see the clips she is re-enacting it’s just so well done. The whole cast is great, and they all were able to deliver these crazy characters to such detail.

In conclusion, it is definitely an entertaining film and it’s not biased in any way, and doesn’t pick sides but brings a new light to the story that had never been done before.
