'The Disaster Artist' & 'The Room' Review

The Disaster Artist & The Room 6.5/10

This is a combination of films that I advise even the severest of critics to watch, and to those who actually enjoy cinema would appreciate how ‘The Disaster Artist’ is created in such a loyal manner to the original ‘The Room’.

Personally, I’m not a great fan of films made by the Duo Franco-Rogen, because they usually use too much simple humor within their films, nevertheless, I give them a big round of applause as this film is actually of quality and in my opinion, the best film made by the duo.

You can see that ‘The Disaster Artist’ was extremely well worked on. James Franco studied his character in every detail, even the little smile in the end of each line a La Tommy Wiseau style. This definitely makes us believe that there is still a space in Hollywood’s market for biographies of unknown people.

It’s incredible how a film so bad like ‘The Room’ can give birth to a film with such great quality, ‘The Disaster Artist’ doesn’t take away the original humorist power, the cast as well as the director show its tragic twists and turn, that makes us always root for Greg and Tommy’s relationship. Also it causes the spectator to feel bad for the consecutive repetitions of the scenes carried out by Tommy.

I decided to watch ‘The Disaster Artist’ first then ‘The Room’, and by doing so it allowed me to understand the characters and what they were trying to achieve through James Franco’s direction. When I watched The Room I already had the clear idea about the goal of each character in the story, I also recognized the essence that Tommy Wiseau tried to give to his movie, just by watching Disaster Artist.

From the random appearances of the young man who inhabits Johnny’s building, to the exaggerated amount of sex scenes with "strange" sets and cinematography, to the embarrassing moments caused by the anonymity of Wiseau's origin and the money he used to finance the film , these 4 hours of quality cinema serve to remind us that its original function is to entertain and for that we do not need scenarios full of hidden messages and special effects, but something that we can sit back, relax and enjoy after a day of work.

Thanks to Mr.Piracy for giving me the opportunity to see both movies.

Signed,

B
