'Get Out' Review
'Get out' Review - 7/10
Production Company: Universal Pictures, Blumhouse Productions
In the beginning you think it’s going to be one of those cliché racial stories of a black guy dating a white girl, the white girl takes the black guy home to visit her racist white parents, and they pretend to not be racist but clearly they are etc. But Jordan Peele grabbed a classically boring story like that and flipped it around and put us on our toes.
As the story progresses you get more and more confused, wondering if the first person to get killed is going to be black or not or if Chris Washington (played by Daniel Kaluuya) is going to give all those old white folks a lesson of how to at least pretend to not be racist.
You then start to realise that the story is more than a simple race story but more of a messed up racial story, really bringing out the terror side of the movie. The movie definitely wouldn’t be half the movie it was without Daniel Kaluuya, I know understand all the hype around him and how great of an actor he is. One of the best elements of the movie is that it tries to incorporate comedy and succeeds with flying colours, as LilRel Howery executes his lines perfectly with a great amount of sass.
If you can’t handle horror movies, it’s not that scary. ‘Get Out’ isn’t much of a jumpy film, although it does become gory at the end, I wouldn’t consider it a horror movie but more of a terror as its focuses more on showing you real life injustices in society with a twist.
Finally, I really did enjoy the movie, and Jordan Peele brought a serious topic like racism and really did show us real life prejudices through a different lens. It was innovative and entertaining and it did motivate me to watch more Jordan Peele movies.
